Linkages to Other Frameworks
Hypothesis: GSDI is one example of a profile of a more general interoperability framework.
If NSDI’s use such a framework they can “plug in” to GSDI
Perhaps, as in the Science Case brought up by Jack Estes yesterday, a similar (interoperable) framework can be developed along different organizational lines than a GSDI framework
Many major organizations and disciplines (e.g., militaries, utilities, telecoms, operations with large logistical challenges, seismic information, petroleum exploration and production) will need an mission-specific ESDI (Enterprise Spatial Data Infrastructure)
These could “plug in” if required and desired
So…what is the GSDI case? Who and what is included? What is its mission? Should it realistically include everything? Should it only include some subset of NSDI content? These are the policy decisions...
